Influencing Factors on Self-Esteem in Male Middle-School Smokers

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the level of self-esteem and to identify the relationship of variables among male middle-school smokers.
Methods: The participants of this study were 187 male middle-school smokers and self-report questionnaire were used. Obtained data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program.
Results: The level of self-esteem was high level(32.25¡¾5.82). The levels of self-esteem were positively correlated with peer relationship and school life satisfaction. The self-esteem were significantly influenced by peer relationship and social support(friend), school life(satisfaction), concern of parents, variances explained 27.9% of the self-esteem.
Conclusion: The results indicate the need to develop programs that enhances male middle-school smokers¡¯ cessation programs that could be utilized as an intervention to encourage peer relationship, social support(friend), school life(satisfaction), concern of parents.
